How do those big warehouse stores get the concrete floors so shiny?

For a commercial business or homeowner, a clean and shiny floor is a positive first impression. Did you ever notice the floors in one of the big warehouse stores? Take a look next time. They are mostly cement floors, built for lots of traffic, but also to look good. Electromagnetic clutches help get the job done as they are used on the floor grinders and polishers.

Propane powered floor grinders use fast rotating grinding pads to turn a rough poured surface into a smooth flat surface. The concrete material is very durable. Polishers do the final process while using rotating pads and chemicals to give the floor its ultimate shine. For those in the floor care industry, reliable and safe equipment is essential to maintain that luster. The addition of an electromagnetic clutch to the grinders and polishers can provide the reliability and safety required.

Smoother starts, higher quality finish – a clutch allows the operator to start the engine without the pads or cutter wheels engaged. This prevents pad scuffing or gouges from the cutting wheels hitting floor too aggressively.

Operator safety – via an operator presence switch, letting go of the controls automatically disengages the clutch and pads or cutter wheels in the case of an emergency.

Cold weather starts – many jobs are done in large warehouses or unheated buildings. By using a clutch, the load is not engaged at start up. This allows the engine to come up to full efficiency before engaging the clutch. This helps to prevent engine stalling.

Soft start controllers are available for Ogura's GT and MA series of General Purpose clutches and for GT series of PTO clutch brakes. They range in torque from around 110 lb-ft to 400 lb-ft for engines ranging from 5 HP to 40 HP. Bore sizes for most models correlate to popular engine shaft sizes of 1" to 1.7/16" but custom designs can be made for the right quantity. They offer multiple output options, including single and multiple v belt pulleys and universal output flanges for in-line or other output options like sprockets or timing pulleys.

Benefits you will see when using an Ogura electromagnetic clutch:

  • Reduced engine load on cold weather starts
  • Increased operational life of pumps and other driven equipment
  • Fuel and energy savings
  • Safety and convenience (remote starting)
