What if the spline wears on my pump clutch?

What if the spline wears on my pump clutch?
A proper shaft fit is critical for reliable clutch and pump performance.

Hydraulic pumps have shafts that are tapered, straight with keyway, or splined. The larger pumps with a clutch often have splined shafts. They are used primarily in commercial fishing, municipality vehicles, and various other applications.

Ogura MMC series mobile clutches can have a splined bore to mount directly onto on the pump shaft. Using a Molybdenum (Moly) Disulfide Grease will reduce wear in the spline due to vibration. NEVER use any anti-seizing coatings on the splines as it will greatly increase the wear rate of the splines due to vibration.

The clutch steel is generally made harder than the mating pump shaft. For this reason, the clutch splines usually wear slower than the pump shaft splines. In cases where extreme wear takes place due to various possibilities, the clutch is not repairable and needs to be replaced. Instead of mounting a brand new clutch on an old, worn pump shaft, we suggest replacing the pump shaft to get maximum clutch life. If not, there will be irregularities on the fit and the wear can be escalated.

For smaller pumps and engines, the Ogura MA Series clutches are available in torques ranging from 58 to 175 lb. ft. For pumps requiring higher horsepower, the MMC Series are rated from 200 to 1500 lb. ft. A variety of bore sizes and pulley options are available from stock.
