Why Dealers and Equipment Owners Prefer Adjustable Clutches.
A Power Take-Off (PTO) clutch is an essential component in outdoor power equipment, playing a vital role in the operation of lawnmowers, wood chippers, saws, and other gas-powered machinery. The PTO clutch engages and disengages power transmission from the engine to the implement, providing safe and efficient operation. Choosing a high-quality PTO clutch-like those from Ogura - can significantly impact your equipment's safety, performance, and cost-effectiveness over its lifespan.
One feature that dealers, equipment owners and operators especially value is the adjustability of Ogura clutches. This puts Ogura clutches ahead of other brand clutches in terms of total value.
PTO clutch brakes are wear items. When the operator engages the clutch, the energy is absorbed by the clutch in the form of heat and wear. There is a direct relationship between energy absorbed and wear rate. What this means is that the clutch will wear. When wear happens, the air gap inside of the clutch grows. When the air gap gets too large, the clutch is no longer able to engage (pull-in).
Ogura's legacy PTO clutch brake designs have adjustment nuts. These three adjustment nuts close the air gap to enable the clutch to engage again. These models include GT1, GT1A, GT2.5, GT3.5, GT4, and GT5 series.
Ogura's newer clutch brake designs do not have adjustment nuts but they are still adjustable. Instead, they have a patented Flip Set™ brake feature. When wear begins to approach the max air gap limit, it becomes more difficult for the clutch to engage (pull-in). There are two simple screws that hold each of the Flip Set brake pads in place. The pads can be flipped one time to get more life out of the clutch. This allows the machine to stay out of the repair shop until a complete clutch replacement can be planned.
In summary, the adjustable clutch brake designs have been appreciated for decades as it lowers the total cost of ownership, and keeps the machines available for use longer to get the job done. So, next time ask your equipment manufacturer to upgrade their machine with an adjustable clutch.
