When Every Day is a Grind...
Safety isn’t expensive, it’s priceless.
The high-speed cutting blades on outdoor power equipment can be dangerous, especially on equipment that is often used by those without proper training or with little experience. When it comes to outdoor power equipment, and specifically stump grinders, it pays to be safe.
Commercial stump grinders are engine driven and have an electromagnetic PTO clutch brake to engage the blades, and to help bring the blades to a stop when disengaged. The clutch brake normally has a 12V coil that is energized to engage the clutch and turn the blades. When current is removed from the clutch, it disengages the cutting implement and engages a mechanical brake through robust springs. In theory, the blades will come to a stop or drastically slow down before the operating can move to the business end of the machine.
Stump grinders are tough applications and Ogura PTO clutch brakes are designed and built for extreme duty. The equipment is often subjected to heavy shock loads, high vibrations, contaminants, moisture, and sometimes even operator abuse. The long history of Ogura PTO clutch brakes in these grinding applications is a testament to the design and durability of the components.
Ogura GT series PTO clutch-brakes are made in a variety of configurations and typically mount on gas and diesel engines rated up to 40 HP. Bore sizes match the typical engine shaft sizes. Pulley sizes can vary based on machine requirements. Some have hub outputs to mount your own pulley, sprocket or coupling half. Clutch torque is rated up to 400 lb-ft on the larger units. These clutches typically operate on 12 or 24VDC.
