Ogura controllable power off brakes
The Importance of Controllable Stopping
Ogura electromagnetic permanent magnet power-off brakes. Braking force is produced via magnets which reduces both the size and weight of the brake versus spring applied brakes. Armature is connected to the hub via a wave spring which eliminates backlash. Because torque is produced magnetically, it is very controllable so brakes can provide a softer stop versus spring applied designs.
PMB series brakes for stopping or holding are rated up to 120 Nm / 90 lb-ft static torque. Custom designs and sizes are available. They have zero backlash and higher torque than an equivalent sized spring set brake. These devices are often used as motor brakes in robotics, medical equipment, aerospace, security gates and doors, and hoists.
Benefits you will see using permanent magnet brakes:
- Brakes provide holding power when voltage is released
- Standard voltages are 24 and 90, but other coil voltages are possible
- Controlled torque
- Compact size
- Zero backlash
