Ogura hydrogen pumps for fuel cells increase life
The answer to "why" is very simple. If it takes less energy to achieve a higher output within a fuel cell, the fuel cell itself is inherently more efficient. How Ogura hydrogen pumps do it is a little more complicated. The lobes in the Ogura fuel pump are made from extruded aluminum and are hollow. Therefore, they have a very low inertia compared with other roots style blowers. In addition, the lobes have a unique low profile. As they rotate in the housing and between themselves, they have a large surface area and very close tolerance between themselves and the housing. In addition, the lobes have a special coating on the surfaces which will absorb contaminants instead of scraping against the housing helping to maintain a close tolerance and eliminating housing scoring, which helps maintain a high efficiency.
Since both, the lobes and housing are aluminum, expansion rates from heating and cooling are consistent helping to maintain design tolerances.
Ogura superchargers can be fitted with a high-performance electromagnetic clutch which can engage the supercharger only when needed. This clutch operates identical to the clutch on the air-conditioning compressor in your vehicle, turn on only when needed thereby saving fuel when not needed. This ability to disengage the supercharger at high speeds works well with a combination supercharger-turbo charger systems.
Benefits of using Ogura superchargers are:
- Higher operating efficiencies
- Designed for pumping wet hydrogen
- Special coating on rotors prevent damage from contaminants
- Lightweight aluminum housing provides excellent heat dissipation
