Ogura's New Cobot Brakes

Ogura has developed a new line of small brakes for cobot applications. The MCNB-TSp Series power-off spring-applied holding brakes also serve a dual purpose as torque limiting devices. Due to the close proximity of humans to moving cobots, safety is always a concern. New proprietary materials, manufacturing methods and optimized designs allow for static friction torque to be both accurate and precise. The brakes are capable of brief slipping without causing damage or injury. A person can physically drive through the brake without causing injury or damage. The torque limiting capability adds an advantage in that safety can be improved, and surrounding components can be designed for lower loading. The benefit is that system weight can potentially be reduced leading to higher production speeds along with longer battery and brake life, and improved quality and throughput. 4 Standard sizes are available from 0.32 to 4.0 Nm static torque. All are less than 1" length. Special designs can be considered. Ogura is helping man and machine coexist on the production line with safety and harmony.
